Why this tool exists
Load boards quote the number that looks best: the loaded-mile rate. But a dispatcher or owner-operator gets paid on what is left over after fuel, the dispatcher or factoring cut, and a day of fixed overhead — spread across every mile, including the empty ones. We kept rebuilding the same spreadsheet on the phone between broker calls, so we turned it into a fast, free web tool that anyone can open on a truck-stop wifi connection.
Reliable Dispatch Co. is a small independent project based in New York, USA, run by people who have dispatched freight and run trucks. It is not a brokerage, a factoring company, or a load board, and it is not affiliated with DAT, Truckstop, 123Loadboard or any carrier or broker.
What the calculator does
- Converts a load posting into true rate per mile (payout ÷ total miles), not just the loaded-mile figure
- Estimates fuel cost across loaded + deadhead miles at your truck's MPG and current pump price
- Subtracts the dispatcher / broker commission and an optional fixed daily overhead
- Shows net profit, net profit per mile, and cost per mile
- Solves the break-even payout for the miles entered, plus the payout needed to hit your target margin
- Gives a color-coded viability verdict so you can decide in seconds
How we keep it honest
The formulas are published in plain language on the home page under "How it works". The break-even calculation correctly accounts for the fact that a percentage-based dispatcher fee grows when the rate grows. The tool deliberately does not guess at market rates — it only works with the numbers you give it, because your cost per mile and your lane are what matter.
Privacy by design
Everything runs in your browser. The load figures you type are never sent to us. Your saved truck specs live in your browser's local storage on your own device. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
How the site is funded
The calculator is free. The Site is supported by advertising through Google AdSense, which keeps it running without a paywall or a login. We do not sell user data. Our Privacy Policy explains how advertising cookies work and how to opt out of personalised ads.
